A Former New Jersey Police Officer Was Found Guilty of Murdering His Estranged Wife and Sentenced to Almost 80 Years in Prison.

Former New Jersey police officer sentenced to 79 years in prison for the murder of his estranged wife.

According to a press release from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, John Formisano was found guilty of first-degree murder for the 2019 murder of his wife Christie Formisano at their home in Jefferson Township, New Jersey, some 45 miles west of New York City.

People earlier claimed that the former couple was split and lived apart at the time of her murder.

John, 52, was found guilty of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree official misconduct, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and third-degree obstructing apprehension or prosecution following an eight-day trial, according to authorities.

According to WCBS-TV, Christie’s mother reportedly read a letter written by the couple’s now 11-year-old daughter as he was sentenced to decades in jail on Monday.

The girl reportedly wrote, “I know it’s not a good thing to say, but I despise him (John) and I’m terrified of ever hearing or seeing him again.”

Officers responded to a report of gunfire at a Jefferson Township residence on 14 July 2019. Christie, 37, was discovered dead on the front porch steps upon arrival.

Another man, named by the news source as Christie’s boyfriend, was shot numerous times but survived.

According to accounts, John and Christie’s children were also at home during the event but were not wounded.

Following the incident, John was apprehended fleeing to his mother’s house in Livingston, New Jersey, according to WCBS.

He was off-duty while wearing his Newark police uniform. The firearm used in the murder of his estranged wife was given by his employer, according to the news source.

The station reports that John’s attorneys want to challenge the judge’s ruling.
