A physician has been accused of groping a female patient and coercing her into having sex with him.
According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, 55-year-old Dr. Gurvindra Johal has been charged with four counts of criminal sexual contact and one count of sexual assault. The Colonia urgent care physician was taken into custody on February 25.
Three victims, according to the authorities, have come forward.
Two female patients at Johal’s former practise on Cornell Street in Perth Amboy have come forward to accuse him of inappropriate touching.
The third alleged victim stated that Johal “had sexual intercourse with her against her will,” according to the prosecutor’s office statement.
Johal’s arrest and subsequent charges were first reported on Sunday. He was being accused of criminal sexual contact with two different people at once. The new charges were submitted by prosecutors on Wednesday.
Johal is credited as the medical director at the Medicenter of Edison on the clinic’s official website. When a reporter tried to speak with the facility’s receptionist, she abruptly hung up.
According to the district attorney, their probe is “active and ongoing.” Det. Lauren Leyva of the MCPO can be reached at 732-745-4499, and Det. Gina Betancourt of the Perth Amboy Police Department can be reached at 732-324-3819 if anyone has any information.
