PATERSON, NJ — This year, three female students from John F. Kennedy High School were the first girls in the history of the school to qualify for the State Wrestling Tournament and Regionals.
This accomplishment marks a milestone in the history of the institution. During the most recent meeting of the City Council, Solaris Paul, Autumn Livingston, and Della Orozco were honored for the achievements for which they have been recognized.
The girls were congratulated by members of the council as well as the mayor’s office. Moreover, Sixth Ward Councilman Al Abdelaziz, who is also a referee, lauded the ladies’ abilities on the mat and commended them for their achievements.
Abdelaziz stated that the individuals in question were a representation of Paterson and that their actions were genuinely historic. “I have seen them wrestle both females and boys; it’s not just girls that they take on.”
The Head Wrestling Coach, Jason Brandt, had this to say about the experience: “I want to thank the council for inviting us, this was incredibly amazing.”
They are going to learn a lot from this experience, and I am certain that they are grateful for it. They put in a lot of effort, and this matters a great deal.

Additionally, Fifth Ward Councilman Luis Velez urged other pupils to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports programs and other clubs and organizations.
