A traditional love story. Kristen Wiig discovered her soulmate in Avi Rothman after ruling out another wedding earlier.
After splitting from her four-year marriage to ex-husband Hayes Hargrove in 2009, Wiig revealed she wasn’t sure she’d marry again.
“It’s not something I’d want to do,” she told Stella, a British magazine, in 2011. “I believe women put more pressure on themselves than society does.”
The Bridesmaids actress fueled relationship suspicions with Rothman in 2016 when the duo was photographed holding hands and kissing on vacation in Kauai, Hawaii. According to Us Weekly, Wiig and Rothman became engaged in 2019 after three years of dating.
When she made a special Mother’s Day appearance on Saturday Night Live, she implied that the couple had taken another important step in their relationship.
In May 2020, the Ghostbusters actor remarked, “This is the Mother’s Day show, and at SNL, it’s a particularly special moment to celebrate moms.” “Unfortunately, like many of you, I won’t be able to spend Mother’s Day with my mother.”
So, if it’s all right, I’d like to tell her I love her. This year, I’m especially grateful for her counsel and love. I’m grateful for everything she’s taught me, including how to be a mother.”
One month later, the Us exclusively revealed that the New York native had given birth to twins through surrogacy. That following year, Wiig talked up about her IVF experience.
“As private as I am and as precious as this all is,” she told In Style in August 2020, “what helped me was reading about other ladies who went through it and talking to others who have gone through IVF and reproductive problems.” “It can be an isolating experience.” But I’m trying to find that area where I can maintain my privacy while also being present for someone else who may be going through something similar.
You go through so much self-deprecation, wonder whether your spouse sees you differently, and all this nonsense we make up in our heads. But every time I mentioned that I was going through IVF, I met someone who was either going through it, about to go through it, or had a buddy who had recently done it.”
The 1984 Wonder Woman actress gushed about the impact motherhood has on her life. In December 2020, she told Entertainment Tonight, “It’s the finest.” “I know everyone always says that, and everyone thinks that it alters your perspective on the world and love. Now it’s simply so much bigger, and everything you said is so accurate.”
She said, “Especially in our industry, you are frequently alone and make your own decisions. It is possible to lead a solitary life. Now that I have children, I feel like, “Oh, I don’t want this to be about me; I no longer want to worry about myself.”
For Wiig, becoming a father presented a unique set of obstacles. In February 2021, she said on The Howard Stern Show, “I’m not as present as I’d like to be due to all this crap.” “It’s quite difficult. When I’m absent for a day, I’m always convinced they’ll forget who I am.
I have regarded my children and thought, ‘I am your mother.’ I’m apprehensive about actually leaving and going to work when that time comes because it’s so great to stay home with kids all the time.”
