South Korean K-pop (Korean pop music) band BTS, full name Bangtan Sonyeondan, is also known as Beyond the Scene due to its popularity outside of South Korea. It consisted of Jin (real name Kim Seok-Jin; born December 4, 1992, in Anyang, South Korea),
Suga (real name Min Yoon-Gi; born March 9, 1993, in Buk-gu), J-Hope (real name Jung Ho-Seok; born February 18, 1994, in Kwangju), RM (real name Kim Nam-Joon; born September 12, 1994, in Ilsan; also known as Rap Monster), Jimin (real name Park Ji-Min; born October 13, 1995, in Pu (byname of Jeon Jeong-Guk; b.
September 1, 1997, Pusan). BTS was well-liked online and had a devoted fanbase (called “ARMY” for “Adorable Representative MC for Youth”). Record numbers of people watched the music videos for the band’s singles “Boy with Luv” (2019), “Dynamite” (2020), and “Butter” within the first 24 hours of their release (2021).
Songwriter and Music Producer
Bang Si-Hyuk, a successful songwriter and music producer who founded his own studio, Big Hit Entertainment, in 2005, is credited with creating BTS. In 2010, he started recruiting members for what he then called the Bangtan Sonyeondan (meaning “Bulletproof Boy Scouts”) but is now more commonly known as BTS. Each member, starting with RM, an underground rapper from Seoul, was hand-picked for their exceptional vocal range, lyrical content, and rhythmic versatility.
The band’s first releases were three EP (extended play) records in the School series, including 2 Cool 4 Skool (2013), O!RUL8,2? (2013), and Skool Luv Affair (2014). (2014). Dark & Wild was BTS’s debut full-length release in 2014. Lyrics were written in-house, with the band focusing on self-advocacy, uniqueness, and empowerment while also making social commentary.

The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Of BTS
Following the release of The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Parts 1 and 2 in 2015, BTS embarked on its first world tour as the band’s popularity skyrocketed with each new album. Life, Part 2 gained so much traction from the tour that it topped six different charts around the world. As a result of this success, the band’s 2016 album Wings debuted at #1 on the Canadian Hot 100 and the US Billboard 200 charts. Afterward, BTS reissued the Wings tracks with four new singles under the moniker You Never Walk Alone (2017).
Fan votes determined that BTS would receive the Top Social Artist trophy at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. After that, the band continued to dominate the competition, taking home the prize every year through 2021. Also in 2017, they dropped an EP called Love Yourself: Her. The album was the first by a K-pop group to enter the Billboard 200’s top 10, debuting at position number seven.
BTS Released Its Third Studio Album
In the year 2018, BTS released its third studio album. It was called Love Yourself: Tear, and it topped the Billboard 200. On their latest album, Love Yourself: Answer (2018), the band compiled songs from their first two albums under the Love Yourself moniker, in addition to a few brand new tracks. The 2019 EP Map of the Soul: Persona was released by the band.
In the first 24 hours after its release, the music video for the lead single “Boy with Luv” received 74.6 million views on YouTube. Soon after, BTS released another critically acclaimed album, Map of the Soul: 7. (2020). The album was an instant hit, and its first weeks of sales put it at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. A disco-pop single titled “Dynamite,” the band’s first in English was released later that year. The music video for the song racked up an unprecedented 101.

The Single Debuted at Number?
1 million views on YouTube in its first 24 hours, and the single debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. BTS was nominated for a Grammy Award for best pop duo or group performance for the song and performed it at the 2021 awards show. The track appeared on the album Be (2020). At the same time, BTS released a number of albums in Japan, such as Wake Up (2014), Face Yourself (2018), and Map of the Soul: 7—The Journey (2020).
The second English-language single from BTS, titled “Butter,” was released in 2021 and quickly rose to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Its music video surpassed the band’s previous record with 113 million views in 24 hours. At the 2022 Grammy Awards, where “Butter” was up for best pop duo/group performance, BTS gave a performance. In 2018 BTS released a YouTube documentary series, Burn the Stage, about its 2017 world tour. In 2018, a movie with extra material was released in some countries.
BTS Concert Documentaries
Additional BTS concert documentaries include Break the Silence: The Movie (2019) and Bring the Soul: The Movie (2019). (2020). It wasn’t until 2019 that BTS made history as the first South Korean musical group to perform on the American comedy and variety show Saturday Night Live. Later that year, a mobile game based on BTS, titled BTS World, was released alongside an album of the game’s music.
Members of BTS were active in a wide range of charitable causes. They collaborated with UNICEF in 2017 to start the Love Myself campaign, which benefits organizations that work to reduce youth violence. South Korean President Moon Jae-In appointed BTS to the position of special presidential envoy for the next generation and culture in 2021.

BTS Also Dropped a New Single
Before the annual United Nations General Assembly meeting of world leaders in New York, the band members took turns giving a speech and showing a video of themselves performing their latest single, “Permission to Dance,” which had been shot in the UN General Assembly Building’s iconic Assembly Hall and on the grounds nearby.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, BTS urged people to get vaccinated and urged the youth of the world to be a light for positive change. In 2022, the group talked to then-Vice President Joe Biden about the increasing number of violent incidents involving Asian Americans in the United States. BTS also dropped a new single that year, “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment),” off their anthology album Proof. After that, everyone decided to go their separate ways and focus on solo careers for the foreseeable future.
