What led OWN to give Queen Sugar a seventh season?

According to Deadline, OWN president Tina Perry said on Tuesday that “Queen Sugar is a truly amazing series brought to life by Ava’s leadership, her brilliant creative team, and the incredible cast and crew.” With complexity and care, the cable executive continued, “Our audience has seen themselves represented in the story of the Bordelon family, including their achievements and tribulations, and most importantly, the love they have for one another through it all.”

The statement “Queen Sugar has been an unmatched success for OWN, gaining critical praise, award recognition, and a faithful and passionate fanbase” is included further. We are extremely appreciative of Ava’s participation and are anticipating an amazing conclusion.

At the start of Season 6 in 2021, DuVernay gushed about how pleased she was that Queen Sugar was still going strong. She said at the time, “I am really proud of that. It’s a radical act that lasted this long, and it’s a testament to every single pair of hands that touched it.

Furthermore, the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 93% favorability rating for the first season with an average rating of 7.4/10 premised on 41 reviews and a 100% favorability rating for the second season with an average rating of 8.03/10 based on 7 reviews, indicating that the seasons have remained positive for the readers.

“With an authenticity of culture and place and superb performances throughout, Queen Sugar rises above melodrama in this intriguing, leisurely, and powerful picture of a turbulent black American family,” according to the website’s critical consensus. The show has also received two NAACP Image Awards and has received a total of 12 nominations.

Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, gives the season a score of 75 out of 100 based on 25 critics, indicating “generally good reviews.” The series has a 7.6 out of 10 rating on IMDb, with 5.3k votes. As a result, it was critical for the show’s creators to close the series in a respectable manner, which the fans actually deserve to see after investing so much of their time in streaming the last six seasons and loving it for so long.
