EAST ORANGE, NJ– A fully involved structure fire that has risen to Five Alarms is currently being battled by the East Orange Fire Department with all available resources.
For the sake of assisting with the firefighting efforts, resources from Bloomfield, Nutley, and Orange have been requested for Mutual Aid.

At this time, the intersection of Freeway Drive and Central Avenue will continue to be off-limits, and alternative routes will be in place.
Sally’s B-S Hair Braiding, located at 225 Central Avenue, is where the fire started on Friday, April 14, 2023, at around 12:26 p.m., according to a press statement issued by the City of East Orange.
The fire immediately got out of control and spread to four additional companies on that block; nevertheless, all of the customers and staff were able to evacuate the buildings safely and avoid injury.
At this time, one firefighter from East Orange is receiving treatment at the Clara Maas Medical Center in Belleville for some relatively minor injuries.
The cities of Orange, South Essex (formerly known as South Orange), West Orange, Millburn, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield, Belleville, and Nutley are among the municipalities that have responded with mutual aid.
While firefighters continue to attempt to get the blaze under control, the section of Central Avenue between Oraton Parkway and South Munn Avenue is currently shut off.
