New England Expects Another Snowstorm Wednesday

Another to go after this one. But Tuesday is at least a day off.

The brightest day we’ve seen in more than a week is really today. As we return to the 40s in most places in the afternoon, the sun should help us stay far over the melting point.

The cooler air will begin to settle in Tuesday night, just as the next storm that is moving out of the Southern Plains is headed into New England.

For Wednesday morning’s commute, expect a steel-gray overcast with the possibility of a few flakes by mid-morning.

Even on Cape Cod, snow extends into the late morning and early afternoon. In some circumstances, this initial snowfall will be significant because of the swift decline in road conditions and travel times.

Overall, 3-5 inches are likely (with the majority of locations falling toward the low end of that range), with 1-3 inches around the shore.

This sudden snowfall is considerable, but as the temperature rises, warmer air will quickly move in and turn the snow into the rain for the rest of the night. The Cape and Islands in particular are predicted to experience strong gusts as the mild air moves in late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

By Thursday morning, most of the storm should be gone, but the temperature continues. As the winds shift back to the west, highs should reach 50 in some places and 40 in others.

On Friday, it will get a little colder, but this weekend, highs will return to the 40s. By early next week, the pattern should have settled down, but by midweek, there may be additional storminess.
