How Does “The Midnight Club” Season 1 End?
Ilonka searches all season for a mystical treatment for her thyroid cancer in Brightcliffe. Regina, the Paragon cult leader, performed a sacrificial rite in Brightcliffe’s basement in the 1930s (and killed four women in the process). Julia Jane, a terminally sick patient, flees into the woods after Brightcliffe becomes a hospice center and returns recovered.
Ilonka accepts but finds at the last minute that Shasta isn’t who she said she was. Julia Jane is sacrificing herself to save herself from her incurable sickness, which has reappeared.
Julia Jane escapes arrest at the season’s end. Ilonka accepts her mortality and stops seeking a miracle cure. The spectator wonders if Dr. Stanton is associated with Paragon and if Brightcliffe has magical healing abilities. The patients’ sightings of the old couple’s spirits are never explained.
