Los Angeles County Sheriff-Elect Luna Has Made Some Key Appointments to The Department’s Command Staff

On Wednesday, incoming Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna announced that a woman with 28 years of experience in the force would serve as his interim undersheriff. She would be the first woman to hold that position in the department’s 122-year existence.

Chief of the Central Patrol Division at the police department is April Tardy.

In addition, Luna stated that Personnel Command Commander Jason Skeen would be serving as his interim chief of staff. Skeen has served in the department for 28 years.

Sheriff-elect Luna announces LASD leadership appointments

Both positions are considered temporary until Luna officially takes over on Monday. On Saturday, new officials will be sworn in.

Luna said in a statement, “Both of these talented and experienced law enforcement leaders share my vision of an effective, compassionate, and constitutional sheriff’s department, and I look forward to serving with them starting on December 5th.

Tardy will serve as the department’s number two officer under the new sheriff. Tardy said in a statement, “I am honoured that Sheriff-elect Luna has confidence in me to serve as undersheriff of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.”

Meanwhile, Skeen will oversee the sheriff’s executive office and provide counsel as a senior official. “Working for Sheriff-elect Luna, I’m confident that we can make progress to reduce crime, help modernise this department, and reestablish important relationships with our communities,” Skeen said in a statement.
