Authorities in Fair Lawn said they apprehended a habitual offender who had broken into a neighbourhood eatery and had a lengthy criminal record. This resulted in their having to release him.
Sgt. Brian Metzler said that surveillance footage from the Crafstman on Maple Avenue showed 34-year-old Manuel Cravero of Prospect Park inside the establishment after hours.

He escaped through a back door after the store had closed, but the borough police caught up with him not far away, the sergeant added.
A person “known to police” describes Cravero. He was arrested in multiple municipalities across Bergen and Passaic counties, adding up to a lengthy criminal history.
Records show that the offender has a long history of criminal behaviour, including burglary, assault, theft, drug possession, disorderly conduct, contempt, probation violations, and most recently, lewdness in front of a kid.

Cravero was released from the Bergen County Jail this past September after spending 10 months there on the lewdness wrap.
Records reveal that in November he was arrested for burglary in Ridgefield and released the next day by a judge.

Police in Fair Lawn have arrested Cravero on burglary charges. However, as per the mandates of the 2017 bail reform law in New Jersey, he was released pending a first appearance in Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
