TRENTON – Tuesday, October 18 is the last day to register to vote in the general election of 2022, which will determine control of Congress as well as the winners of numerous county and municipal positions.
There are around 6.5 million registered voters in the state. With over 100,000 more Republicans and approximately 32,000 more Democrats, that is an increase of about 122,000 from the previous federal election two years ago.

During that time, there has been a decline in the number of unaffiliated voters. While Republicans have made progress in terms of partisan voter registration, there are still nearly 1 million more registered Democrats in the state.
Online voter registration is available. They must supply a Social Security number, their date of birth, and either a driver’s license or non-driver identity card issued by the Motor Vehicle Commission.

Someone must be able to sign electronically or upload their signature in order to register using a Social Security number. When someone uses a license or nondriver ID, the MVC will verify their information and give them a copy of their digital signature.
A paper form must be completed in order to register a person. The person’s home county’s superintendent of elections or commissioner of registration will then receive the completed forms.

To meet the 2022 enrollment deadline, the forms would need to be personally delivered since they need to be received by Tuesday rather than just mailed.
In order to register to vote, a person must be a citizen of the United States, be at least 17 years old (although they cannot vote until they are 18), have lived in the county for 30 days prior to the election, which was held on Oct. 9 and cannot be incarcerated at the time.
