Daft Punk Break Up? When Did Daft Punk Break up And Announce It on Twitter?

The Parisian duo Daft Punk, who recorded some of the most iconic tunes in the history of electronic dance music and pop, have called it quits. They released an 8-minute video titled “Epilogue,” which was taken from their film Electroma in 2006. In response to Pitchfork’s inquiry as to the status of Daft Punk, longtime publicist Kathryn Frazier acknowledged the group’s dissolution but offered no explanation.

With the help of Guy-Manuel de Homem. Daft Punk was founded by Christo in Paris in 1993; the group is widely credited with pioneering the French touch subgenre of house music. Homework, released in 1997, featured the hit singles “Around the World” and “Da Funk,” and was a watershed moment in dance music.

Discovery, their 2001 follow-up, found the duo making public appearances dressed as robots, which would become a defining feature of their brand.

Their international fame was guaranteed by the success of the singles “One More Time” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” Albums like Human After All, a live album released in 2007, and the soundtrack album for Tron: Legacy helped cement their place in the public consciousness and solidify their reputation as a musical force.

In response to a request for comment from music publication Stereogum, Daft Punk’s spokesperson Kathryn Frazier acknowledged the end of the duo but did not elaborate on the reasons for the breakup. Even though they’ve been working together for 28 years, the team has yet to publicly remark on the cause for their split. Since the release of 2013’s “Random Access Memories,” there has been no word of a new studio album from the band. Fans joked on Twitter that the two-year cancellation of Coachella was due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

One Twitter user, upon hearing the news of Daft Punk’s breakup, commented, “This is what happens when you cancel Coachella two years in a row.” During their 2006 headline set at Coachella, Daft Punk premiered their now-iconic pyramid light show, which they later took on the road with them as part of their “Alive” tour and kept performing throughout 2006 and 2007.

Thomas and Guy first crossed paths as fellow students in Paris during the 1980s. Inspired by the Beach Boys, the duo first created the band Darlin’ with their pal Laurent Brancowitz in 1992. One reviewer in the Melody Maker called the song “a stupid punky thrash” after it was released. After receiving criticism, the band decided to change its name to Daft Punk and shift its focus to electronic music.

After Laurent’s departure, the resulting band was dubbed Phoenix. It wasn’t until 1994 that Daft Punk’s debut single, New Wave, was released to the public. Two years later, they released their debut studio album, Homework, which quickly rose to the top of the charts. Thomas and Guy’s first project together was well received, so towards the turn of the century, they published their second, titled Discovery. Rolling Stone magazine included their track “One More Time” on their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
