ARLINGTON (DC News Now) — After the murder of a transgender woman in northeast D.C., the community is looking for closure.
Police say that on January 7th, someone stabbed Jasmine ‘Star’ Parker to death on Gallaudet Street NE. Police are still looking into it, but no arrests have been made.
Incredibly elated and merry. Incredible levels of vitality. Continually comical. Star was “playful, loved to sing, and loved to dance,” according to Pamela Witherspoon, her sister.
On Monday, members of Star’s family, friends, and community gathered to pay their respects.
She was simply a joyful person. I wanted acceptance more than anything,” Witherspoon explained. The last time I tried to keep it together, I actually collapsed.

Budd’s place of employment is HIPS, an organization that provides services to people who have been impacted by drug use or sexual exchange due to pressure, choice, or circumstance.
According to Budd, the District of Columbia is making strides toward ending the violence that has plagued the transgender community for far too long. But there’s more she’d like to see.
