Classroom of the Elite Season 2: Which Volumes of the Novel Series Are Adapted for Season 2?

The popular high school drama anime “Classroom of the Elite” is based on manga and light novels of the same name. Originally conceived as a light novel series by author Shgo Kinugasa, “Classroom of the Elite” depicts the lives of a small number of high school students attending the lowest-ranked class at Japan’s most elite academic institution (via Anime News Network).

Its protagonist, Kiyotaka Ayanokji, is a super-genius who, for unclear reasons, placed himself in the lowest ranks of his school. Soon after entering, Kiyotaka discovers that the school’s academic achievements revolve more around sabotage than education, prompting him to safeguard himself and his peers as they ascend the school’s ranks.

The original light novel was released in 2015 but was quickly adapted into manga and anime, with the latter airing in 2017. As is common with anime adaptations, “Classroom of the Elite” was unable to adapt its source material in its entirety. Consequently, fans are still awaiting the beginning of a second season.

Even while it seems doubtful at this point, the show’s creators have not formally canceled the series, leaving the door open for a possible continuation. Despite the lack of information concerning Season 2 of “Classroom of the Elite,” there is still much to be said about the show’s narrative, actors, and possible release date. Here is what we currently know.

Classroom of the Elite Season 2: When Will Season 2 Premiere?

Even after four years, it appears that the animators (Studio Lerche) and licensors (Funimation and Crunchyroll) of “Classroom of the Elite” have opted to stubbornly remain mute on the second season.

At this moment, it is logical to believe that Season 2 of “Classroom of the Elite” will never come to fruition, as neither party has chosen to make an official statement. Fans have a glimmer of optimism despite the dearth of information on the subject.

Assuming Lerche or the show’s licensors announce another season of “Classroom of the Elite” in the future, it could be close to a year (or even longer) before the show is released. Assassination Classroom, one of Lerche’s past works, was announced in April 2015, per a separate Anime News Network post. The season did not premiere until January 2016, therefore “Classroom of the Elite” might take approximately eight months to complete production, if not longer.

Classroom of the Elite Season 2: Who is in the Cast?

No anime is complete without a cast of memorable characters, and “Classroom of the Elite” is no exception. In addition to the protagonist Kiyotaka Ayanokji, who was voiced by Shouya Chiba in Japanese and Justin Briner in English (through Myanimelist), “Classroom of the Elite” featured a number of secondary characters.

The most noteworthy of these is Suzune Horikita (Akari Kitou/Felecia Angelle), a soft-spoken yet clever student who arrives at the lowest levels of the academy and rapidly befriends Kiyotaka. Kikyou Kushida (Yurika Kubo/Sarah Wiedenheft), a popular student of Suzune and Kiyotaka who desires to befriend all of her academic friends, particularly Suzune, joins them.

While many fans may be content to watch “Classroom of the Elite” in its original Japanese language, others who love dubs will be pleased to learn that the English dub has historically been released simultaneously with the Japanese version. If Season 2 of “Classroom of the Elite” is ever produced, viewers can definitely anticipate this trend to continue. Overall, critics have lauded the English dub of the first season, particularly Justin Briner’s performance as Kiyotaka (via Anime News Network).

Classroom of the Elite Season 2: Storyline

Kiyotaka sneakily wins the school’s “Lord of the Flies”-style survival exam by correctly guessing the identity of each class leader as the first season of “Classroom of the Elite” concludes. Following his victory, he discovers that his father has been actively working to get him expelled from school.

Classroom of the Elite Season 2 (2)

Obviously, this is related to Kiyotaka’s unstated motivation for enrolling in the institution in the first place. Kiyotaka chooses to finish his education there nonetheless.

Assuming it follows in the footsteps of the previous season, the second season of “Classroom of the Elite” will likely remain at least partially loyal to its manga and light novel source materials. In terms of story progression, the show’s source material is oceans ahead of the anime, so Lerche has much material to draw on.

Kiyotaka’s reason for enrolling in this ruthless institution remains a mystery to the audience. Furthermore, he has not yet risen to the top of his academic class, and it is unknown how his father’s influence may affect this objective. Evidently, Lerche is obligated to pursue all of these plot strands if it proceeds with “Classroom of the Elite” Season 2.

Classroom of the Elite Season 2: How Many Volumes of the  Have Been Published?

In Japan, there are presently 11 light novel volumes for the 1st grade and 6 for the 2nd grade of Classroom of the Elite. The latest book of the light novel series was published in Japan on June 24, 2022.

Classroom of the Elite Season 2 (2)

The first season covers the first three books. There are 15 volumes available for the anime adaptation of the light novel series (8 of the first and 7 of the second).

Classroom of the Elite Season 2: Which Volume is Adopted for Season 2?

Season 2 of Classroom of the Elite begins with volume 4 of the light novel and will likely conclude with volume 6. The first anime season of Classroom of the Elite adapts volumes 1 through 3.

The second season should likewise consist of 12 episodes, like the first. There would be more than enough source material for a third season of the anime even after the second season.
