A suspect has been apprehended following the Tuesday morning shooting death of a Jersey City educator.
At around 7 a.m., an incident, which seemed to be a domestic quarrel, was reported near the intersection of Bergen and Virginia avenues.
The shooting took place on the victim’s floor (the third level) of the Toy Factory flats.
Superintendent of Jersey City Public Schools identifies her as Temara King: ” “Temara King’s tragic passing has left a gaping hole in all of our hearts.
She was a fantastic educator and a serious contributor to our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones as they deal with this terrible loss.”
The district website states that King taught third grade.
Authorities announced later Tuesday afternoon that they had caught the gunman, who was claimed to be a resident of the complex.
Shortly after the incident, the victim’s daughter made a 911 call and identified the shooter.
Minutes before the incident, a witness spotted the suspect acting agitated and inattentive.
Currently, the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office are looking into the situation.
