Family members of the Gloucester County lady who was killed in an apparent murder-suicide by her ex-boyfriend, a retired police officer from Atlantic City, are remembering her as a loving mother and vivacious individual who desperately wanted her killer to leave her alone.
Shortly after 7 o’clock on Monday evening, police were called to the house of Erin A. Gatier, 47, in Deptford Township, where they discovered both her and former Buena police officer William W. Beattie’s bodies.
Gatier’s sister Ashley Demmy said he “simply would never go away” to NJ Advance Media. Always returning, always knocking on the door, never giving up. He was relentless in his pursuit of her. It’s horrible that he abandoned us like the way with her.
According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, Beattie broke into Gatier’s house, shot her, and then shot himself.
Demmy said that in the past, her sister had filed restraining orders against him.
A law enforcement officer verified that no restraining order was in effect at the time of the shooting, but that Gatier had previously secured a temporary restraining order against Beattie.
State pension records from 2010 show that Beattie retired from the Atlantic City Police Department due to an accident disability.
After a guy from Toms River sued the police in 2008 saying that they violated his civil rights during his detention in 2006, a federal jury exonerated Beattie and three other officers.
Demmy remembered her sister as a vibrant, kind person who cared deeply for her two children.
Demmy praised her sibling, saying, “She was all about her kids, a terrific mom,” and adding that the woman also had a passion for stylish apparel. She was crazy with her high-end fashions. Their puppy, the Lulu, is named after Louis Vuitton.
To provide home health, palliative, and hospice care, Gatier worked with Compassus.

As of December 2020, her Facebook profile states, she has been working as the company’s New Jersey area market executive.
Demmy said the family is still grieving her passing.
There are two sisters she’ll be leaving behind. Demmy stated their 83-year-old dad has a heart issue and that he isn’t in good health.
Demmy remarked, “He’s holding on right now better than predicted, but it’s very hard.

Demmy added that on November 16 in Nashville, Gatier and her family and close friends celebrated her 47th birthday.
“They were really excited to go to New York this weekend,” Demmy added. She just constantly seemed to be up to something intriguing.
Demmy wants to think back on her sister like that.
She pleaded, “Please don’t let the manner in which she was stolen from us be the only thing we remember of her.
” There was “always so much life and vitality in her.”
