It was in 2008 that Colleen Ballinger conceived and portrayed the role of Miranda Sings, a fictional figure that initially surfaced on the Internet. You may watch hilariously inept and misguided films of the character on Ballinger’s YouTube channel.
“Tutorials,” “recounting her daily activities,” “discussing current events that she often misunderstands,” and “collaborating with other YouTubers” are just a few of the things the character does in these videos. She responds to her detractors with her catchphrase, “Haters Back Off!”
Who Is Miranda Sings?
Ballinger invented the persona as a spoof of bad but arrogant singers who assume that publishing their songs on YouTube will lead to them getting into show business, inspired by early YouTube videos that she saw and nasty classmates.
Since July 2021, Miranda’s YouTube channel had over 2 billion views and 10 million subscribers, while Miranda’s TikTok and Instagram accounts had more than 12 million followers and 6 million subscribers, respectively. In addition to Twitter, the persona is active on several other kinds of social media.
More than 800 videos portraying the character Sings have been uploaded on Ballinger’s Sings YouTube account since 2008. An internet parody of bad, yet arrogant musicians who broadcast recordings of themselves singing online with the intention of breaking into the show industry, despite the harsh or realistic criticisms of “haters” who comment on their videos.
A Star in The Entertainment Industry?
As a broad point of reference, it is a satire of any and all over-the-top and untalented entertainers. Miranda is said to be a single mother of a newborn who lives with her mother, uncle, and other family members who homeschooled her. Overconfident, infantilized, and narcissistic, she is hell-bent on becoming a star in the entertainment industry.
For the videos, Miranda sings in a delightfully off-key yet convincing manner and performs renditions of popular songs, as well as her own compositions. At other times, she rants about her critics on the internet and talks about the backstory of the character she’s portraying.
Her speech is riddled with mispronunciations and malapropisms, and she is abrasive, angry, ludicrously selfish, narcissistic, self-righteous, and socially inept. Self-absorbed and invulnerable to criticism, the character is described by the Times. Viewers who are misled by Miranda’s persona and think they’re seeing a serious film by a lousy entertainer leave harsh comments on her videos.

As Ballinger explained to the crew behind the scenes: “It’s like something from Andy Kaufman. You’d be shocked at the amount of hate mail we’ve received. On the other hand, you can type whatever you want online and get away with it. Perhaps since the Internet is a strange postmodern distortion of reality, individuals…
thought it was their responsibility to bring out how dreadfully untalented [Miranda] was, in the most awful ways……. When she reads some of the hate mail she receives on stage, it’s an art form in and of itself.” Because the jokes about Miranda’s stupidity, quickly became viral, as Ballinger stated.

She Is a Famous YouTuber?
“Christmas With Miranda Sings,” an EP by Ballinger, was released in 2009. She presented at the CYT Directors’ Choice Awards in La Mesa, California in 2010 as Miranda and appeared at the Nightlife Awards.
