A New Jersey-based paleontologist, Kenneth Lacovara, has finally unboxed a toy that has been in development for almost a decade.
The toy features the dinosaur Lacovara, which was found in 2005 and appeared in the summer blockbuster “Jurassic World: Dominion.”
The unboxing of the Mattel toy sent Lacovara back to the desert in Patagonia, where he first discovered the remains of Dreadnoughtus schrani.
He stated, “What a long, odd journey it’s been, from mining in the desert in one of the most remote areas on earth to a toy sold in millions of Target shops.”
Lacovara, the founding dean of Rowan University’s School of Earth and Environment, stated that he discovered the dinosaur’s femur on the first day of excavation in southwestern Argentina.
The finding and the resulting gadget were “something his younger self could never have imagined,” he said.

From 2005 through 2009, Lacovara and his crew spent three to four months annually unearthing the bones. Over the course of four years, he and his crew unearthed 145 bones.
Later, he established that it was a new species and gave it the name Dreadnoughtus, which means “has no fear.

Lacovara, who discovered his affinity for dinosaurs as a child, stated that he believes the toy will have the same effect on children today.
Who knows how many children will find this beneath their Christmas tree or receive it as a birthday present, Lacovara remarked. “I believe there will be scientists in the future whose careers were inspired by this toy.”
