On February 12, 2022, over a year ago, a fight broke out at the Bridgewater Commons Mall.
The Attorney General has completed their study and is dissatisfied with the pace of municipal administration, although authorities in Bridgewater assert they have been performing their duties.
Police authorities were able to break up the brawl between the two adolescents as captured on video.
Z’kye, a 14-year-old Black boy, was handcuffed and compelled to the ground.
A 15-year-old child of Colombian and Pakistani descent was placed on a chair without being handcuffed.
Z’kye told CBS2 at the time that he believed the officers should be fired.
“If they don’t know how to treat the situation equitably and fairly, they shouldn’t be able to handle it at all,” he stated.
Both adolescents were returned to their parents with no charges filed.
Now, in September of 2022, the Attorney General’s office says it “completed its investigation and sent a comprehensive Internal Affairs Report and Findings to the Acting Chief of the Bridgewater Township Police Department” for review, but the AG says “that process has taken an inordinate amount of time and further delay only frustrates and erodes the public’s fragile trust in the law enforcement community.”
