New Jersey Students Can Compete in the SkillsUSA Championship

Throughout New Jersey, SkillsUSA will have student competitions in March. Making sure that America’s workforce is adequately trained is the goal of this national organization.

This is accomplished through “helping instructors and high school and college students who are prepared for employment in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations and for higher education,” according to a press statement from the group.

More than 80 tournaments will be held throughout the state’s numerous technical institutions. The competitions include categories for cosmetology, welding sculpture, criminal justice, culinary arts, baking, health and medical fields, quiz bowl, electrical construction, carpentry, and robotics, among many other subjects.

The champions of each category will go to Georgia in June to compete on the national stage on behalf of the Garden State. At an awards ceremony in April, winners will also be acknowledged.

Marine Service Technology serves as the competition’s opening round. It will occur at the Atlantic Boat Show at the Atlantic City Convention Center on March 1.
