New Jersey Health Officials Announced 2,166 COVID New Cases And 17 Deaths, Weekly Average Up 29% From The Previous Week!

On Friday, New Jersey health officials announced 2,166 new cases of COVID-19 and 17 deaths related to the virus. The average daily caseload has grown by over 30% in the last week. The statewide transmission rate as of last Friday was 0.88.

Every new case results in less than one additional case if the transmission rate is less than 1, hence this indicates that the outbreak is diminishing. When the rate of transmission is 1, the number of new cases has stabilized; when it’s greater than 1, the epidemic is spreading.

The seven-day moving average of confirmed positive tests in New Jersey is 1,551, up 29% from a week ago and up 12% from a month ago. There is “high” community transmission in Bergen County, according to the CDC. Only one county in the state, Mercer, has “low” transmission, while the other 19 counties in the state all have “medium” transmission.
