N.j. Ice Cream Shop’s “Heart and Soul” Founder, Who Was 85 Years Old, Passes Away.

On Monday, his family reported that he had passed away at the age of 85. He was known as the “heart and soul” of a legendary family-owned Newark ice cream parlor that became one of the largest names in Garden State ice cream.

The Nasto family announced on social media that Frank Nasto Jr., founder of Nasto’s Ice Cream Co. in Newark, passed away on Christmas Day. Nasto’s, which has been in business since 1939, is well-known for its ice cream and other frozen treats.

He was Nasto’s driving force and a key contributor to the success of the business as it exists now. The Nasto family remarked that their uncle’s legacy would include his hard work and dedication.

An obituary states that funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Buyus Funeral Home, with a Mass to follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark.

Originally from Newark’s Ironbound District, Nasto eventually made his way to Union.

His death was announced only seven months after the passing of his older brother, Alphonse. Nasto’s Ice Cream Co. was built by the brothers working together, as stated on the company’s official website.

Despite its current success, the well-known ice cream parlour started out small.

According to the company’s website, Frank Jr.’s parents, Frank Sr. and Angelina immigrated from Italy and started an ice cream business near the intersection of Jefferson and East Kinney streets.

Nasto and his brother Alphonse bought the company and transformed it into a successful retail and wholesale enterprise.

According to the company website, traditional family traditions from Frank Nasto Srhometown .’s of Nocera, Italy are still used to this day to create delicious Italian treats like Spumoni and Bisque Tortoni.

The Newark shopfront, located one block west of Independence Park, is no longer adequate for the business’s needs.

Frank Nasto Jr. and his family lived in the flat above the parlour, hence the place has sentimental value.
