NEW YORK — The New York City Police Department has determined that the human remains found by a guy who was walking his dog in a park on Staten Island belong to a 63-year-old lady who passed away in 2011.
On Friday, a dog walker in Pleasant Plains discovered a hand in a forested area close to the intersection of Amboy and Cunningham Roads.
After running the fingerprints, the investigators claim that they were able to positively identify the remains.
The woman was reportedly laid to rest at the neighboring Resurrection Cemetery, as reported by the police. They report that her casket was damaged in February when the site next to hers had excavation work done on it.
Her hand reportedly made its way into the soil from the dig, which was placed in a tree-lined area, and over the course of time, the hand found its way into the park, according to the police.
