Kirstie Alley’s Death at Age 71 Has Been Confirmed by Her Family!

Actress Kirstie Alley passed away Monday night after a long battle with cancer, her family and manager confirmed. It was revealed that she was 71 years old.

“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” True and Lillie Parker, Alley’s children, wrote in a statement that was posted to Alley’s Twitter. “She fought valiantly, aided by her loved ones, and we can only imagine the boundless optimism and optimism with which she will face her future. Despite her fame, her roles as a mother and grandmother were more impressive than anything she did on screen.”

They continued, “Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren, and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.” We appreciate your support through this challenging time and ask that you respect our privacy.

ABC News has been informed by Jason Weinberg, Alley’s manager, that Alley has passed away. Alley made her acting debut as Lieutenant Saavik, a Vulcan Starfleet officer, in the 1982 film “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.” She was born in Wichita, Kansas to Robert Deal Alley and Lillian Alley.

She went on to star in a string of independent films after that, including “One More Chance,” “Blind Date,” and “Runaway.

Then, in 1987, she replaced Shelley Long on “Cheers” and remained with the cast until the end of the show’s run. As a result of her work, she was named the Emmy winner for best actress in a comedy series in 1991. Later, for her part in the TV drama film “David’s Mother,” she won a second Emmy. The next year she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 1997, Alley starred in another sitcom, “Veronica’s Closet,” as New York City lingerie shop owner Veronica “Ronnie” Chase. There were three seasons in total.

Later in her career, she starred as Tony Award-winning actress Maddie Banks on her own show titled “Kirstie,” who must learn to deal with the return of the son she gave up for adoption. The series debuted in December 2013 and was axed in July 2014.

Alley is a name that a lot of people will recognize because she was Jenny Craig’s spokesperson from 2004 to 2007. She claimed to have shed 75 pounds while employed at the nutrition and weight-reduction firm. According to an interview she gave to People in 2009, she admitted to having regained the weight since breaking up with Jenny Craig. Having lost 50 pounds, Alley rejoined Jenny Craig as a spokesperson in 2014. In the 2011 season of “Dancing with the Stars,” Alley competed alongside professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy and came in second place.

In her most recent TV appearance, she portrayed Baby Mammoth on this year’s “The Masked Singer.” At the time of her big reveal, she mentioned her grandchildren as the inspiration behind her desire to get back into show business. She confidently assured the panel that they would enjoy the presentation.

Actor John Travolta, Alley’s co-star from “Look Who’s Talking,” posted a photo of the two of them together on Instagram shortly after the news of her death broke. He reflected on their relationship, calling it “one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had” in his diary. “I adore you, Kirstie. We will definitely cross paths again.
