In New Jersey 2,170 Covid Cases And 14 Deaths, Hospitalizations Rise High Since February!

On Thursday, officials from New Jersey‘s Department of Health announced 2,170 new cases of COVID-19 and 14 confirmed deaths. The state’s hospitalization rate has increased since February. As of this past Thursday, the transmission rate over the entire state was 0.88.

Each new case results in less than one subsequent case if the transmission rate is less than 1, indicating that the outbreak is diminishing. A transmission rate of 1 suggests that the number of new cases is stable, while a rate greater than 1 shows that the epidemic is spreading.

The seven-day moving average of positive tests in New Jersey is 1,417, up 16% from a week ago and up 4% from a month ago. Mercer, Sussex, Morris, Passaic, Bergen, and Hudson are the six New Jersey counties currently classified by the CDC as having “low” community transmission.

Fifteen of the state’s counties have what is considered “medium” community transmission. As of Wednesday night, 71 institutions in the state had reported caring for 1,236 individuals with coronavirus confirmation or suspicion.

There are 147 people in the intensive care unit, with 45 of them on ventilators. The most recent day for which data is available shows a positivity rate across the state of 10.96% on Saturday.

The above 10% is considered “high” by the CDC for positivity rates. On January 1st, at the height of the omicron variation, the statewide positive rate in New Jersey peaked at 40.83 percent and has since dropped significantly.

After Mississippi, Arizona, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Michigan, New Jersey has the tenth-highest rate of coronavirus deaths per capita in the United States, as of Monday.
