The Cyclone roller coaster at Coney Island is one of the world’s most famous examples of risk-taking, so it makes sense that a casino would be built there as well.
Applicants seeking one of the city’s limited casino licenses have shared their plans for what such an establishment may look like.
Renderings show a spectacular new “Coney” casino and hotel being built near the historic Brooklyn boardwalk and beach, right between the famous Cyclone and Wonder Wheel.
Behind the casino would rise a modern glass hotel with a brightly colored apex. A convention center is incorporated into the design as well.
Artist representations were released by a Coney Island partnership that comprises developer Thor Equities, gaming operators Saratoga Casino Holdings and The Chickasaw Nation, and Legends, a sports and entertainment organization co-owned by the Yankees.
A black-and-white version of the casino’s logo, reading “The Coney Casino Resort & Resort Entertainment District. Brooklyn,” was also made public by the consortium.

According to Robert Cornegy, a former councilor in Brooklyn and current adviser with the consortium, the gaming facility both spruces up and mixes in flawlessly with the existing Coney Island boardwalk.
I think the buildings look great with the promenade and the streetscape,” added Cornegy.
If the proposed casino is built, he claims it will revitalize the entire boardwalk, which is currently bookended by the aquarium on one end and the Mets’ minor league team’s stadium (the Cyclones) on the other.
The casino’s Las Vegas-style entertainment hall will feature performances by top artists, and a neighboring convention center will make up for the lack of a significant venue in the area for business conventions in southern Brooklyn.
He argued that the initiative will increase employment opportunities in the Coney Island neighborhood.
We must do our part to improve the standard of living in unserved areas. Cornegy claimed that this was routine at the casino in Coney Island.
There are multiple applicants for three casino licenses in the downtown area.
Bally’s, a major casino operator, has proposed building in The Bronx, on the public golf course owned by the Trump Organization at Ferry Point.
Bids to add table games are anticipated from Genting/Resorts World and MGM’s Empire City, the current slot parlor operators at the Aqueduct race track in Ozone Park, Queens, and the Yonkers race track, respectively.
Mets owner Cohen, meantime, is considering a casino in the area around the team’s stadium in Flushing, Queens, in partnership with Seminole Hard Rock. There are also plans for a professional soccer stadium with 25,000 seats to be built nearby.
The Steve Ross-Related Companies and Wynn Resorts partnership is planning a bid to operate a casino in Hudson Yards, while the SL Green and Caesars Entertainment team is planning a bid in Times Square, and the Legends, which is co-owned by the Yankees organization, is part of a consortium pushing for a gaming facility in Coney Island.
