After at least one person became ill from eating raw oysters in Las Vegas, the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning to 13 states to avoid eating raw oysters from South Korea.
According to the FDA, two outbreaks of illness linked to a Las Vegas restaurant were reported by the Southern Nevada Health District. One case of Sapovirus disease was verified, with nine further cases suspected.

In a news release from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the agency stated that diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and stomach pain are the most often reported symptoms of sporadic gastroenteritis caused by Sapoviruses.
The FDA reports that the average onset of symptoms is within 48 hours. Officials warned that anyone who has recently had raw oysters in (13 states) and is worried they may have food poisoning should consult a doctor right away.
This is especially true for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
Customers and vendors in the following states were also subject to the FDA’s advisory: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The FDA reported that Dai One Food Company collected the oysters on February 6 and shipped them overseas. On February 6, FDA officials claimed that a Korean company had recalled frozen half-shell oysters, frozen oyster IQF (individually quick freezing), and a frozen oyster block from the same harvest area.
