An investigation led to the arrest of a guy who is accused of pushing a woman down a stairway in New York City and raping her there.
According to FOX 5, Jamel McIver, 30, has been charged with rape, burglary (sexually motivated), and criminal sex act. All of these charges stem from the same incident.
At approximately one in the morning on Saturday, McIver is accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman in a building located near West 65th Street and West End Avenue.
The young woman was reportedly followed by McIver inside the building and into an elevator, according to the police. After that, he allegedly raped the girl in a stairway after forcing her out of the elevator and into the stairs himself.
The suspected perpetrator of the rape was seen on surveillance tape tossing his jacket after the crime was committed. After then, the perpetrator ran away on foot.
The person was transported to a hospital where their condition was reported to be stable.
According to authorities and police sources who spoke to PIX 11, McIver was apparently handed over by members of his family. Sunday afternoon, about four o’clock, he was taken into custody.
Authorities have disclosed to FOX 5 that McIver was previously arrested in 2019 for the crime of rape.
