Alex Guarnaschelli is doing her best to recover from her breakup. The Food Network star and her fiance Michael Castellon called it quits after five years of marriage, PEOPLE reported on Monday. And on Wednesday, Guarnaschelli told her Instagram followers the news, adding that it hasn’t been easy.
In response to the question, “How are you getting through your recent breakup?” posted in Guarnaschelli’s Instagram Story, the author wrote, “If I’m honest: poorly.” She then posted a photo of two slices of pizza with the caption, “That said, there is always pizza,” implying that she was finding solace in carbs.
Guarnaschelli and Castellon Have Called It Quits.
Nearly two years after getting engaged in June of 2020, Guarnaschelli and Castellon have called it quits. Guarnaschelli, 49 at the time, told PEOPLE that she and Castellon were “in no hurry” to get married but were looking forward to a lavish ceremony and reception. On Wednesday though, Guarnaschelli posted on Instagram, “I am not getting married in the foreseeable future, unfortunately.”
That it was challenging to maintain a relationship while in the spotlight was something she confirmed. One reader expressed their regret at reading about the breakup, writing, “So sorry to read about your breakup.” Guarnaschelli replied, “I was sorry to read about it too.” Guarnaschelli later said, “there are no stopping feelings,” in response to a question about how to get over the lonesome feeling that comes after a breakup.
Guarnaschelli’s Marriage Hasn’t Been the Only One to Break Up
“Part of life is being alone and part of life is being lost,” she penned. “Life, they say, is what happens in the spaces between… Take some time to consider it, and remember to always back yourself. Guarnaschelli’s marriage hasn’t been the only one to break up before. Her ex-husband Brandon Clark is a lawyer. Ava, their daughter, is 14 years old.
Guarnaschelli referenced Ava, writing, “I have a 14-year-old woman (Ava) watching me every day” in response to an Instagram comment praising the Alex Versus America star for being a “great example to all women” for “doing what’s best for you, even if it hurts.” There is no other option.
Guarnaschelli and Castellon First Met
As the story goes, Guarnaschelli and Castellon first met when she stopped by the restaurant where he was working. She recalled the moment to PEOPLE: “I was out to dinner with a friend, and at a restaurant where I knew the waiter, and I was eating dinner and I said, ‘This steak is just so good.’ ” My friend the waiter exclaimed, “Oh my God, the chef here is my best friend!” He really is incredible. A meeting with him is a must.
As she explained further, “I went in to meet him and tell him the steak was delicious and that was it.” Almost four years later, on the way back from a trip to the supermarket, Castellon popped the question. He told her he got out of the car after spotting a baby deer on the shoulder of the road and invited her to do the same.

To which she replies, “No, where’s the baby? A young deer is what you promised me.
And he says, “There are no deer.” “When I turned around, he was down on one knee,” the cook exclaimed. And he reported that “there are no deer.” He says, “I have to marry you because you always believe me.” He asked, “Will you marry me?” before handing me the ring.
