A Pharmacist From Virginia Was Found Guilty of Participating in a $1 Million Medicare Fraud Scam.

The United Press International reported on February 9 that The Justice Department reported on Thursday that a federal jury in Florida had convicted a pharmacist from Virginia of participating in a scheme to fraudulently collect more than $1 million in prescription drug benefits from Medicare.

The Justice Department said in a press statement that 33-year-old Ronald A. Beasley II had been found guilty of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud as well as three counts of healthcare fraud.

Based on the evidence shown in court, it appears that Beasley was the head pharmacist of NH Pharma in Lake Mary, Florida.

Authorities say that Beasley and his unnamed accomplices billed Medicare for pricey medicine creams that they never purchased or delivered, instead providing patients with a cheaper drug cream that was not covered by Medicare.

Federal prosecutors stated that the company’s inventory records showed that it had not purchased enough of the costly prescription medications to fill all of the prescriptions it billed to Medicare.

To sum it all up: “Beasley and his co-conspirators collected almost $1 million in fraudulent revenues from Medicare.”

Beasley will learn his fate on April 25; for each count, he could get up to 10 years in prison.
