Nicholas Thompson, who is 26 years old, was given four years in prison for a date rape in which he tried to have sex with a woman who was unconscious and unable to give consent.

According to rules set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Jill G. O’Malley, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said that Thompson must serve at least 85% of his sentence before he can be paroled.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says that Thompson was a Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) Type II at the time of the crime. Thompson was sworn in as a Keansburg Patrolman last year.

In October 2021, he was caught and charged. After talking with the victim, Thompson agreed to plead guilty to second-degree Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault. This was done in May.

“When he pleaded guilty, Thompson said he tried to have sex with the victim when she was unconscious and unable to give consent. This happened when Thompson was off duty in January 2021 at a private home, the MCPO said in a statement.

Prosecutor Santiago said, “Sworn members of law enforcement should be held to a higher standard, both on and off the job.”

“When they fall so far short of that standard that their actions become illegal, it is our solemn duty and obligation to step in and make sure they are held fully accountable.”
