Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said on Wednesday that Wood, the state auditor since 2009, is facing various charges related to a hit-and-run accident that occurred in December.

Accusations against Wood include an infraction for dangerous movement and a Class 2 misdemeanour for hit-and-run causing property damage, as stated by Freeman.
The billboard at the intersection of US-1 and NC-96 has reportedly been seen by commuters as recently as Saturday.
What does it say? “Need aid after a hit-and-run. There’s a button that says “1-800-RESIGN” and a link to the North Carolina State Auditor’s page.

Court records show that on December 8, 2022, at 9:12 p.m., Wood crashed into a parked 2016 Toyota Sedan in downtown Raleigh.
According to the papers, the 2021 Toyota Sedan she was driving made a sharp turn into West Hargett Street from South Salisbury Street, where the accident occurred.
Andrea Cardella, who saw the incident as she was leaving work that night, said it looked quite bad.
By the time I arrived to the scene, the police had already arrived. I just observed a parked automobile get hit and the vehicle that hit it lay on top of its hood. The vehicle’s lights and engine remained on. They had “just kind of left it there,” she explained.
According to the court filings, Wood was officially charged on December 12th.

On Thursday, Wood’s representative indicated she had nothing to add to the discussion. Freeman, the district attorney, would not provide any other details about the incident.
On Thursday, Wood will appear before a judge.
