It was the third shooting involving police in the Bronx in as many hours on Thursday night when officers opened fire on an armed suspect on a catwalk adjacent to subway tracks.<\/p>\n

NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper said at a press conference that the man was shot when he became trapped between police officers while brandishing the gun at around 8 p.m. near the 231st Street subway stop.<\/p>\n

After officers made “multiple” demands for him to drop the weapon, he was struck once in the left hand, Kemper said.<\/p>\n

The condition of the individual, who has not yet been recognized, is described as stable.<\/p>\n

“It should also be noted that this individual pointed that firearm at these officers up on that catwalk area multiple times,” Kemper added.<\/p>\n

Around 8 p.m., witnesses called 911 to report a man “acting crazy” and pointing a gun at a throng that included youngsters, Kemper said. Police responded by rushing to the 238th subway station platform.<\/p>\n

According to him, authorities from the 238th Street station followed the alleged shooter southward, while those from the 231st Street station encountered him.<\/p>\n

The Bronx incident is the third police shooting in New York City on Thursday; in both Brooklyn and Queens, officers exchanged gunfire with armed suspects.<\/p>\n

Before 1:15 p.m., police responded to a possible burglary at a Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment and shot and killed an older man who they said “charged” at them with a weapon.<\/p>\n
