The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has recalled 3,436 pounds of boneless beef chuck because it may be contaminated with E. coli that makes Shiga toxin. coli.<\/p>\n

The product that is being called back has the letters “EST. Inside the USDA mark of inspection was M-19549.<\/p>\n

They were sent to distributors, federal buildings, stores, restaurants, and institutions in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, such as hotels, restaurants, and institutions.<\/p>\n

Most people who got sick had diarrhea that was often bloody and made them throw up. Some of the diseases could last longer and be worse.<\/p>\n

Stool samples were tested to see if the person had an infection. The usual treatment was to give the person more fluids and other care to help them feel better. Antibiotic treatment is not recommended.<\/p>\n

Most people get better in less than a week, but in rare cases, some get a more serious infection like kidney failure.<\/p>\n

Anyone who ate the tainted beef and got sick because of the bacteria should talk to their doctor as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
