According to NJ.com, the sister site of the Advance\/SILive.com, a former New Jersey fire chief will get almost $400,000 for unused time collected during years of employment.<\/p>\n

Jersey City’s fire chief since 2018, Steven McGill, retired in February after serving for over 30 years. According to papers obtained by NJ.com<\/a> through an Open Public Records Act request, McGill will get a total payout of $420,964.17 for unused sick, vacation, and compensatory time.<\/p>\n

The media outlet claims the checks are called “boat checks” because the retiree can use the money to buy a boat. There will be three installments totaling a little over $140,000 spread out over the period of three years as compensation.<\/p>\n

According to NJ.com, New Jersey’s generous pension payouts to long-serving public employees are still going strong. Employees of local governments who were hired after 2010 are barred by law from receiving more than $15,000 in compensation for wasted sick days.<\/p>\n
