On Thursday, workers held a rally on the Grand Concourse in an effort to demand that they be paid appropriately.<\/p>\n

Over a dozen employees of NGC Cleaning Services who are immigrants have reported to News 12 that they have not been paid for their work. It’s been said that people in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn have had their wages stolen.<\/p>\n

A representative from the nonprofit organization New Immigrant Community Empowerment, who was also present at the event, stated to News 12 that the organization is due more than $21,000.<\/p>\n

On top of the other hardships and exploitation that immigrant workers in New York City experience, it is said that this makes the situation intolerable.<\/p>\n

News 12 attempted to get in touch with the cleaning service, but the number they were given led them to a woman who owned a company with a name that was very similar.<\/p>\n

She stated that the Internal Revenue Service has been calling her about the wage thefts that have been reported, and she shared this information with News 12.<\/p>\n

According to Sara, a representative from New Immigrant Community Empowerment, “We know that a lot of these companies are unlicensed, they’re picking up workers… or just those looking for work, and they’re really taking advantage of the need of workers.”<\/p>\n
