“We are proud to pass a budget for 2023 that continues to support the high quality of life that Morris County is known for while also taking into account the financial strain that inflation rates in the past have put on taxpayers.<\/p>\n
This budget was made possible by strong ratable growth and careful financial planning. Because Morris County planned well for its health care benefits, the state health plan had much less of an effect on rising costs than it did on other counties. This lets us provide and improve services like public safety while keeping the tax rate the same, according to Commissioner Deborah Smith, Chair of the Board’s Budget Committee.<\/p>\n

The $343.5 million 2023 Budget includes a $124.3 million Capital Spending Plan for the calendar year, of which $10.3 million is covered by grants and $85 million will go towards building a new Courthouse. When these things are taken into account, the net Capital Spending Plan for traditional projects in 2023 is about $29 million.<\/p>\n
This year, the fund balance grew by $2.8 million, bringing it to a total of $60.7 million. This was done to protect against changes in the economy that could not be predicted and to help Morris County keep the AAA bond rating it has had for 47 years.<\/p>\n
“Our AAA rating saves everyone money in the short and long term because it lets our towns, school districts, and the county borrow money for important infrastructure projects at the best possible rates,” said Commissioner Director John Krickus<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the 2023 spending plan, about $74.6 million is set aside for public safety. This includes full dispatch services for 23 municipalities and daily backup services for all 39 Morris County towns’ Basic Life Support and Emergency Medical Service units. In 2022, over 3,866 emergency calls were made to the Basic Life Support Emergency Medical Service Unit in Morris County.<\/p>\n The county government is involved in making sure that mission-driven financial investments help a wide range of programmes meet the needs and challenges of our community.<\/p>\n “Programs like our Navigating Hope programme and the Sheriff’s Office Hope One are tackling problems like drug use and making people more aware of county resources and support,” said Christine Myers<\/a>, a member of the Budget Committee and Deputy Director of the Commissioner’s Office.<\/p>\n The Preservation Trust Fund Tax, which has helped protect and improve Morris County for more than 30 years, will stay the same in 2023 at 5\/8 cent per $100 of the county’s total equalised property value.
