(PIX11) — Julio Ramirez, a social worker from Brooklyn, and John Umberger, a political consultant from Washington, D.C., were both drugged and killed as they were leaving gay nightclubs in Hell’s Kitchen last year, according to the official ruling issued by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Friday. Both men were victims of homicide.

Acute intoxication brought on by the interaction of multiple substances was listed as Julio Ramirez’s, age 25, the official cause of death. These substances included fentanyl, p-fluoro fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, lidocaine, and ethanol.

The cause of death was determined to be a homicide, and the medical examiner noted that the death was the result of a theft that was aided by drugs.

John Umberger, age 33, who was in New York City at the end of May, was found dead with the same drugs present in his system, and the medical examiner determined that he was also a victim of homicide as a result of a theft that was helped by the use of drugs.

Umberger was able to withdraw around $23,000 from his account. Four days after Umberger departed The Q Club on Eighth Avenue, his death was discovered on June 1 inside the townhouse that his boss called home on the East Side.

His mother, Linda Clary, stated that surveillance tape showed him exiting the club and getting into a car while he was squashed between two other males.

Ramirez was the son of Salvadoran immigrants, and he had earned a Master’s degree in both social work and public health from the University of Buffalo. Ramirez’s parents had immigrated to the United States.

At the beginning of this year, the chief of detectives for the New York Police Department (NYPD) stated that close to 30 club druggings that may have resulted in six deaths were now being investigated.

In connection with two deaths in central Manhattan that were allegedly caused by drug use, Kenwood Allen was charged with murder. In addition, he has been connected to two further murders in which the victims’ bodies were abandoned in the Bronx.

In the case of the deaths of Ramirez and Umberger, no suspects have been identified.
