The Washington state grocery store that sold the winning $754.6 Powerball ticket in Monday’s drawing gave the extra $50,000 to a local food bank.<\/p>\n

According to KIRO-TV, the bonus went to the Auburn Fred Meyer shop because it sold the winning ticket. The prize was the ninth largest in U.S. lottery history and the fifth largest in Powerball’s history. Until Monday’s drawing, the jackpot has rolled over a total of 33 times.<\/p>\n

It was reported on Thursday that the corporation had given the full incentive to the Auburn Food Bank. The food bank and retail chain said in a joint statement that their donation will supply enough food for around 66,000 meals.<\/p>\n

Debbie Christian, executive director of the Auburn Food Bank, said in a statement, “Hunger and food insecurity are major challenges across the state, and collaborations like this one with Fred Meyer and QFC strive to lower the numbers of those facing food insecurity.”<\/p>\n

According to KIRO, Fred Meyer explained that the gift was made in recognition of the company’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative.<\/p>\n
