At the Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey Undergraduate Research Symposium, Felician University is proud to be represented for the eighth year in a row by an exceptional undergraduate STEM student.<\/p>\n

Brianna Manning will be honored as a student researcher at the Research Symposium in March 2023, and Dr. Alfredo Castro, who is Manning’s faculty advisor, will serve as a project judge.<\/p>\n

Early on in their undergraduate careers, students have the opportunity to do research as part of the Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey (ICUNJ) Undergraduate Research Symposium, which aims to increase the retention of STEM majors and research lab experience.<\/p>\n

The ICUNJ Symposium will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City for its fourteen members, all of which are from New Jersey colleges and universities that provide four-year degrees and are regionally accredited.<\/p>\n

Brianna Manning, a senior undergraduate at Felician University, was chosen by ICUNJ organizers after a rigorous application and research proposal review procedure to attend the Symposium and present her ICUNJ-approved research project.<\/p>\n

In order to understand the potential health effects of the varied hues of beets, Manning’s initiative investigates their varying betalain amounts and resulting nutritional qualities. In front of a judge’s panel, she will discuss her study, hypothesis, and test results.<\/p>\n

Felician University Associate Professor of Natural Sciences Dr. Castro stated, “It is Brianna and my honor to represent Felician University in the ICUNJ Research Symposium once again.<\/p>\n

The university’s participation in the event “supports Felician’s developing reputation as a research institution to be listed among the top STEM schools and universities in the State of New Jersey,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n

Manning was awarded an Undergraduate Study Symposium scholarship to help her with her research after being chosen by the ICUNJ committee to attend the Research Symposium.<\/p>\n

Manning was chosen to attend the Symposium in January 2023 on the advice of Dr. Castro, who was also her former professor in the School of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n
