Jay Williams, a native of New Jersey, is vying for a coaching position in the Big East, but not everyone likes his appearance.<\/p>\n

With Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing under fire after his team lost 27 consecutive Big East regular-season games, Williams tweeted, “People keep asking me, so I’ll answer… Georgetown Basketball has always been a career aspiration.<\/p>\n

Williams, a 41-year-old native of Plainfield, New Jersey and former No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft, works for ESPN but has no head coaching experience. Williams appeared to double down after receiving criticism on Twitter from former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy and others on his bid for a position now held by an NBA Hall of Famer.<\/p>\n

“There is actually nothing wrong with declaring your desired profession in athletics when asked. Does not imply that you hate somebody. I will always do things my way. Call it by any name you like. He tweeted, “Love channelling all the rage into something better.”<\/p>\n

Tuesday night, during the last moments of Georgetown’s 66-51 loss to Seton Hall, the student section chanted “Fire Ewing.”<\/p>\n

The Hoyas finished last season 0-19 in Big East competition and have not won a regular-season game since March 2021.<\/p>\n

Following winning the Big East Tournament in 2021, Ewing, 60, reportedly signed a three-year contract extension and has a $14.9 million buyout after this season.<\/p>\n

AD Georgetown Last week, Lou Reed published a statement regarding Ewing’s condition.<\/p>\n

“We acknowledge that this is a difficult and frustrating time for the men’s basketball team and our fans,” he told The Associated Press. No one is more dedicated than Coach Ewing to restoring the program’s momentum.<\/p>\n

Ewing was questioned about Reed’s statement following Villanova’s home loss last Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“My future is my own,” said Ewing. “I’m here as Georgetown’s head coach until the President or the board thinks I should move on.<\/p>\n

“But before then, a friend texted me the following quote: ‘It’s not how many times you get knocked down; it’s how many times you get back up.'” Now that we’ve been knocked down, all we can do is keep getting back up.”<\/p>\n
