According to him, several of the places he tried to give to had already run out of Thanksgiving turkeys.<\/p>\n

Welch explained, “I came from a household with needs, so it’s important to me to pay it forward whenever I can.”
\nWelch was able to give back in time for Thanksgiving since the Food Bank of South Jersey is still accepting donations of turkeys.<\/p>\n

Food Bank of South Jersey CEO Fred Wasiak believes that “families deserve the right to have those family traditions around a decent, healthy, nutritious meal.”<\/p>\n

At the moment, he says, they’re feeding more people every month than they were at the height of the pandemic, and Thanksgiving is no exception.<\/p>\n

According to the Food Bank of South Jersey, they received 18,000<\/strong> requests for turkeys in 2021. They had 22,000<\/strong> requests this year.<\/p>\n

“The price of food becomes more unstable as inflation rises. The pandemic’s aftershocks can be felt in the form of rising petrol prices and inflation “Said Wasiak.<\/p>\n

Something that Welch observed as he went to buy his free turkey.<\/p>\n

Welch acknowledged that food costs have risen this year but explained why he was making a donation anyhow.<\/p>\n

Wasiak claims much more money is required.<\/p>\n

While they were successful in meeting the demand for 22,000 turkeys,<\/strong> they must now prepare for the upcoming cold season.<\/p>\n

Wasiak lamented that food donations were falling short of needs, but noted that “families who can give are really giving.”<\/p>\n
