Despite qualifying for the Kentucky Derby, trainer Chad Brown decided to pull Early Voting out of the first leg of the Triple Crown in order to keep him fresh for the Preakness Stakes in 2022. Brown’s tactic paid off in 2017 when he did the same with Cloud Computing, which went on to defeat Classic Empire by a hair.
Early Voting is 7-2 in the 2022 Preakness Stakes odds, having been sired by the renowned Gun Runner. On Saturday, Pimlico Race Course will host the 147th Run for the Black-Eyed Susans. Secret Oath is 9-2, while Simplification is 6-1. Epicenter is a 6-5 favorite. The Preakness Stakes 2022 will begin at 7:01 p.m. ET. Before you make any Preakness Stakes predictions, check out what famed handicapper Hammerin’ Hank Goldberg recently made.
Last year at the Belmont Stakes.
Goldberg, a former ESPN and NBC horse racing reporter, became a famed handicapper by going right to the source. In 2004, he dined with trainer Nick Zito at a Queens pizza before the Belmont Stakes. On top of his exacta, trifecta, and superfecta wagers, Goldberg decided to play Zito’s 36-1 monstrous long shot Birdstone to win. Goldberg earned $24,000 when Birdstone surprised the globe.
His performance at SportsLine has persisted. Hammer ran a $20 exacta that paid 9-1 in the San Felipe Stakes in March 2020. In the 2020 Belmont Stakes, Goldberg was all over Tiz the Law, who won the year’s first Triple Crown event convincingly. Hammer also won the Blue Grass Stakes, Haskell Stakes, and Pacific Classic in the same year.
In the Belmont Stakes last year, he nailed the Essential Quality-Hot Rod Charlie exacta. Anyone who has followed him in these events knows how far he has progressed.
He’s now focused on the 2022 Preakness Stakes field and has recently given his forecasts and choices. They are only seen here.
Predictions for the Preakness Stakes in 2022.
One surprise: despite being one of the top 2022 Preakness Stakes favorites and having recently won the Kentucky Oaks, Goldberg is utterly dismissing Secret Oath.
Secret Oath won the Kentucky Oaks for the fifth time in 2022, fending off a late surge from race favorite Nest to win by two lengths and earn trainer D. Wayne Lukas his fifth Oaks victory. In her only previous race against the guys, the Arkansas Derby, she didn’t receive a good trip.
She got an early bump and elected to go wide, sitting at the back of the group until the top of the second curve, when she surged to the front. However, that kick came too soon, and she lost steam in the last furlong, finishing second behind Cyberknife and Barber Road. In the Kentucky Derby, both horses were essentially unimportant.
How to Pick the Preakness Stakes in 2022.
Hammer, on the other hand, is betting on a long shot who is a “versatile runner” and the “best value in the race.” This horse is in Goldberg’s Preakness Stakes betting for 2022, and you should, too. He’s merely telling SportsLine readers which horses to support and which to avoid.
