While an Indictment of President Trump Approaches, a Bomb Threat Forces the Closure of a Manhattan Civil Courts

Although prosecutors next door continue their investigation into Donald Trump’s hush payment to Stormy Daniels, the civil courthouse in Manhattan was briefly evacuated due to a bomb threat on Tuesday.

The caller to 911 did not identify the former president by name, nor did they specify the criminal courthouse across Centre Street in central Manhattan where District Attorney Alvin Bragg maintains an office.

According to a Law360 writer, the threat did have an effect on one of the legal proceedings involving the ex-president: New York Attorney General Leticia James’ $250 million fraud lawsuit against Donald Trump and members of his family who are also part of the Trump Organization.

For a brief period, the civil courthouse was purportedly closed and searched. A court worker at the criminal courthouse who spoke over the phone with The Independent seemed unfazed by the uproar, suggesting that the court had been unaffected by the incident.

The Manhattan grand jury empaneled by Mr. Bragg does not meet on Tuesdays, and there have been no reports yet suggesting that the grand jury ended their duties on Monday, so Mr. Trump’s statement on Truth Social over the weekend that his arrest will occur on Tuesday appears doubtful.

But, the grand jury is not expected to have any more witnesses on their list of people to hear from, thus a criminal indictment in the Daniels affair might come as early as Wednesday.

Mr. Trump has vented openly for days about the possibility of his indictment and is also reportedly participating in an effort to prevent any charges against him or his legal team from being brought by a grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia.

Barricades were set up outside the Manhattan criminal courthouse after Mr. Trump’s social media summons to protest, but very few pro-Trump protestors showed up.
