Here Are the Last Five States That Will Send Out Millions of Stimulus Checks.

There is no doubt that COVID-19 hurt the economy here and all over the world. Who would have thought that three years after the pandemic hit America, states would still be sending checks?

When it became clear that the federal government was not likely to s end out more stimulus checks, these states stepped in to help fill the financial gap.

Just as people got checks from the stimulus package, so did each state. Some of these state governments chose to give some of their stimulus money to the people who live there.

Whether states called the money a tax rebate, a check to help with inflation, or a one-time refund to taxpayers, it was all a type of stimulus.

As February starts, these five states are still taking payments. Some people say that payments will start in 2022. Millions of people haven’t gotten the extra money in their bank accounts yet, though, for a number of different reasons.

Here’s how the states are right now.

People in Colorado who asked for more time to file their tax returns for 2021 should get stimulus money sometime this week. People who file their taxes alone will get an extra $750, and couples will get an extra $1,500 to pay bills or save for a rainy day.

2. Idaho

Residents of Idaho will have to wait until the end of March to get a rebate that was approved by Idaho lawmakers at a special session. Single people who file taxes will get $300 or 10% of their income tax bill for 2020, whichever is higher.

For married couples filing jointly, the amount is $600 or 10% of their 2020 income tax bill, whichever is higher.

3. The state of New Jersey

Residents of New Jersey have until May 31 to decide what to do with their property tax rebates. Homeowners who make up to $150,000 can get $1,500, and those who make between $150,000 and $250,000 can get $1,000. Those who rent and make less than $150,000 can get a $450 rebate.

4. Pennsylvania

Residents who are 65 or older, widows or widowers who are 50 or older, or people with disabilities who are 18 or older can apply for tax or rent refunds for 2022.

The most a homeowner can get from the standard rebate is $650, but if they qualify for a supplement rebate, they could get as much as $975. The state encourages people who want to apply to do so online through myPATH.

5. South Carolina

South Carolina residents have until February 15 to file their 2021 state income tax returns and become eligible for a refund check of up to $800. The actual amount of the rebate will be based on how much income tax South Carolina will owe in 2021, minus any credits.

If it seems strange that South Carolina residents are filing their state returns for 2021 when the rest of the country is filing for 2022, the delay is due to Hurricane Ian.

The original deadline to file was October 17, 2022, but it was moved back to give people who were affected by the hurricane more time to gather their records and file.

Due to the number of people who died and the damage to the economy caused by the pandemic, we can only hope that COVID-19 will be a once-in-a-lifetime event.

We can’t be sure, but we do know that if something like this happens again, local and state governments may know how to handle it better.
