A Man From Kearny is Reportedly One of Two Suspects in the Kidnapping, Assault, and Theft of a $20,000 Ransom From a Queens Uber Driver

According to the press, an Uber driver in New York City in October 2022 was kidnapped, beaten, and robbed of $20,000 by two members of a “team” located in Queens. One of the men was from Kearny.

The New York Daily News reported on March 17 that Sam Carrasco, 20, of Kearny, and Jeffrey Tavares, 23, of Queens, were both accused in connection with those crimes in Brooklyn Federal Court.

According to the report in the News, the two were involved in a string of armed robberies and carjackings in Queens beginning in October 2022 and continuing up until this month.

On October 24, 2022, the two and another man are accused of robbing an Uber driver in Murray Hill, Queens, of his keys, wallet, and iPhone 13 before demanding payment. The event was reported in The News.

The thieves reportedly held a gun to the victim’s head before the latter revealed his home address and said he had cash there.

The gang then broke into the home and made off with $20,000 in cash before releasing the suspect on the eastern tip of Long Island with the warning, “We will kill you and your family if you call the police.”
